The CoderDojo is a movement of free kids programming clubs that are sweeping the world. It started in Ireland in early 2011 and the growth has been staggering. Volunteers all over the world are getting together to create a CoderDojo in their own city. The structure varies, but the basic premise is the same – a group of kids and experienced mentors get together to work on fun projects and learn how to program.
Silicon Valley is perhaps the most important place in computer history, but there wasn’t a CoderDojo until now. We’re excited to announce the first Silicon Valley CoderDojo session on Wednesday, September 26 at 7 pm. Microsoft in Mountain View has graciously volunteered an excellent meeting room and we’re gathering a talented group of mentors.
Breakout Mentors founder Brian Skinner is organizing the technical mentors to make sure there is exciting material and qualified mentors for each meeting. The first few sessions in the fall will be independent of each other – come to any meeting to see what it’s all about. But eventually, the goal is to take each topic deeper – to build upon the knowledge acquired in the previous sessions and work on larger-scale, exciting projects. Hope to see you there!
