Addie is a senior at Stanford studying Bioengineering – a mix of Computer Science and Biology that uses a lot of Data Science. Let’s learn a little more about her experience helping kids learn to code!
When did you start to code?
I started to code my sophomore year of college when I took Stanford’s first course in Java CS 106A.
Why is it important for kids to start coding when young?
Coding is a completely different kind of critical thinking than other subjects, so the earlier kids can start, the better! I wish I had learned earlier so I could have applied computer science critical thinking skills to my other areas of study.
What do you find rewarding about teaching kids how to code?
I love seeing my students get excited about a project they are working on. So many times I think we are just creating a simple arcade game, and they come up with fun and creative add-ons to make their project so much more.
