It’s with a heavy heart that I share with the Breakout Mentors community the passing of Mischa Nee. Mischa was a junior at Stanford and involved in a hiking accident while studying abroad.
Mischa was part of Breakout Mentors the last two years, including mentoring one boy the entire time, except for breaks to study abroad. He loved to travel – not just casually, but truly immersing himself in the culture and learning the language. At just 20 years old he lived for multiple months in 6 different countries!
I also had the privileged of working closely with Mischa when he was the Breakout Mentors summer intern in 2017. I marveled at his quiet confidence and willingness to stretch his comfort zone even though he only had been coding for a couple months at that point! These qualities extended to his hobbies as well – I encourage you to check out the photos and videos of Mischa juggling and jumping rope.
There will be a memorial service at Stanford’s Memorial Church Thursday 4/11 at 2:30pm. More info here.
