A new year brings reflection and goal setting. The quintessential resolution is to lose weight – gyms across the world are packed at this time of year. But what do reflection and goal setting have to do with parents of kid coders?
Many parents have told me that their child has repeatedly said they are interested in coding and asked to do more of it. For every parent who sought out Breakout Mentors and told me this, I suspect there is another family who hasn’t taken this step. They have put it off until the parent isn’t as busy, after soccer season, during the summer, and so on.
Procrastination can be identified by reflection and rectified by setting goals. Just like “getting fit” is pushed off until we have more time, helping our kids pursue their interests can be pushed off as well. Take the time to do some honest reflection – right now you are doing everything you can to help your son or daughter take their interest to the next level?
Breakout Mentors 1-on-1 programming mentors from Stanford and UC Berkeley might be just what you need. Most of the year we don’t have the capacity to add new students, but right now we do. Please contact us to discuss how we might be able to help.
