Nil is a senior at UC San Diego who is an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning specialist for Breakout Mentors. Even before joining Breakout Mentors, Nil has shown a lot of interest in education. This is why she chose to study Cognitive Science: how the human mind learns. She has an impressive ML research background, including in the Cognitive Tools and the Early Learning and Cognition labs at UCSD. With Breakout Mentors Nil guides her students through real-world projects that make an impact. Let’s get to know her a bit better:
When did you start to code?
I started coding in early high school, it was quite a challenge to do on my own but as I got more into it I realized the power of the tool and have been passionate about it ever since. I like to compare coding to a magical paintbrush, and your computer is an infinite canvas! The opportunities are limitless.
What do you find rewarding about teaching kids how to code?
I find it rewarding to share my passion with other people, and see them grow. As much as they learn from me, I learn from them. I find it inspiring to build projects with them and watch them unleash their creativity.
What advice do you have for kids learning how to code?
Let your curiosity drive you, don’t hesitate to ask for help and remember to have fun!
