Tenzin is a junior at Stanford from Minnesota who is studying Computer Science. Before college Tenzin had a lot of leadership experience, including as the captain of his high school soccer team. He also has completed several interesting software internships, including in B2B software (helping sales teams) and the investment management industry.
Tenzin is a perfect example of incredible teaching instincts despite very little formal tutoring experience before Breakout Mentors. For example, he already excelled at connecting concepts to previous knowledge and explaining the why behind conventions. This is crucial as our students move from beginner to intermediate and advanced projects!
Let’s get to know him a bit better:
When did you start to code?
I started to code in my first year of college! I enrolled in the introductory coding class at University, and I really enjoyed the creativity I had when it came to writing code.
Why is it important for kids to start coding when young?
As with anything, I believe experience is invaluable. The sooner you start, the more experience you will gain with the different concepts of coding. This familiarity will help you excel in any future coursework or project you choose to work on.
What advice do you have for kids learning how to code?
Play around and have fun! I found that exploring different coding problems independently is the best method to learn. On top of that, learning should be a fun process. Having fun while learning will help you retain information better because the process is enjoyable and memorable.
