Ayushi grew up in the Bay Area and is like a cool big sister to the students she works with. Ayushi is interested in going into biocomputation after college and has experience using Python with massive healthcare datasets. With Breakout Mentors students the projects may be a little simpler, but she is wonderful at making it fun!
When did you start to code?
I didn’t learn to code until my freshman year in college, since it was never offered in the schools I attended before. I struggled a bit at first, but I really enjoyed how coding challenged me, which is why I ended up majoring in it. Being someone who didn’t code before college, I understand the importance of learning code earlier on and relate to being a beginner to coding.
Why is it important for kids to start coding when young?
Coding teaches a lot of important life skills including problem solving, patience, and resilience. For me, coding changed the way I look at the world and the problems I face. Exposing kids to coding when they are young can help them develop key skills that everyone will need in the technological world that we live in today.
What do you find rewarding about teaching kids how to code?
The curiosity and imagination that kids have is truly special. I find it rewarding when the students create projects that are unique to their interests and passions. It’s super fun to see the kids use coding tools to have fun and create meaningful projects they will remember.
