Darianne is just our second mentor from the University of San Francisco. She is a senior studying Data Science and has complete impressive internships with Twitter and Paypal. Let’s get to know here a little bit better!
When did you start to code?
I started to code my first year of undergrad. I had no idea at the time that I would grow to really like programming and that it would be a part of my life from that point on.
Why is it important for kids to start coding when young?
I think it is important for kids to start coding young because they will have so much more experience and potential by the time they get to college and the industry. I wish I had started so much earlier!
What do you find rewarding about teaching kids how to code?
I think it is important to learn how to code, but also know how to teach what you know. In a job or field if you cannot teach what you know to others, you are not helping your company or community grow. We can’t do the same job forever so it is important to be able to pass along information as well as keep learning from others.
What advice do you have for kids learning how to code?
Don’t give up. Coding may seem hard at many points and there may be a lot of times you’d like to quit, but working through your failure is the only way to grow and be stronger in what you do.
